Fire, Hit-and-Run Collision Reported in Centralia–Chehalis Area

State fire assistance has been mobilized for the Ryegrass Coulee Fire in Kittitas County, near Vantage, according to a Washington State Patrol announcement. Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking witnesses to an injury hit-and-run collision that occurred on June 25 at 1:56 a.m. on westbound State Route 96 near Dumas Road/Elgin Way SE. A pedestrian was struck and the unknown vehicle fled the scene, continuing westbound on SR 96 over Interstate 5 into Everett. The vehicle, described as a silver/grey late 1990s or early 2000s Chevrolet Tahoe, is missing a passenger side marker light.

State Fire Marshal’s Office personnel are coordinating the dispatch of two wildland strike teams and air resources to aid in containment efforts for the Ryegrass Coulee Fire. WSP Detective Nick Brockman is asking for witnesses or dash camera footage from the June 25 collision to help locate the suspect vehicle.
