I-5, SR 6, SR 702 closures planned

Multiple road closures and lane reductions begin this week for maintenance and construction projects across the region.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced several lane closures effective Sept. 14, 2026, including a right lane closure on southbound I-5 near milepost 88 for guardrail repairs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 21. On SR 6, travelers will experience single-lane traffic between Clinton Road and Twin Oaks Road weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Oct. 12 for water main replacement work by Boistfort Valley Water Corporation. A separate SR 6 closure for tree trimming between Rainbow Falls State Park and Hope Creek Road will run through Sept. 30.

WSDOT also announced roundabout construction projects on SR 702 and SR 507, with one-way alternating traffic around the clock until Nov. 13 and Oct. 2, respectively. Additionally, a ramp closure on SR 512 will affect overnight traffic through Sept. 20, with ongoing work until Nov. 30. The I-5 exit closure to East 26th Street and the Tacoma Dome will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22.
