State fire resources have been mobilized to support containment efforts for two wildfires in Washington state, according to Washington State Patrol records.
The Ryegrass Coulee Fire, which began July 8, 2026, near Vantage in Kittitas County, has burned approximately 600 acres and is threatening homes, power infrastructure, and structures. State Fire Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of resources on July 8 at 7:45 p.m. at the request of Fire Chief William Rose. The fire is currently under investigation for cause and has prompted Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations in the Vantage community.
The Chelan Hills Fire, located near Orondo and Chelan Falls in Douglas County, started July 4, 2026, at 12:05 a.m. and covers 400 acres. State Fire Chief John Batiste authorized state firefighting resources on July 4 at 4:30 a.m. at the request of Assistant Fire Chief Justin Dennis. The fire is burning in grass, brush, and timber. The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2, partial activation, for both fires.
